As the 3rd largest source of human-related methane emissions in the US (according to the EPA), landfilling is a costly problem to communities and to the environment. Landfilling can also contaminate soil & water supplies. In addition to landfill related emissions, vehicle emissions from garbage trucks also contribute to overall air pollution, especially where landfills are being located at farther distances from the communities they serve. In the case of garbage, every ton that is landfilled and every mile it is transported, both contribute to the overall negative environmental impact garbage has on our communities

We provide a comprehensive solution to the complex challenge of un- sorted, mixed waste handling and comprehensive community recycling. We integrate the latest innovations in comprehensive recycling system technology with ability to effectively sort, separate & process materials of varying sizes and combinations. This flexibility allows for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to be converted into renewable feed stock quickly and efficiently.

Our innovative technology turns regular household garbage into clean electricity. A Navitus facility can turn an entire community’s unsorted garbage into power. We first separate out the recyclables – then convert everything else into a clean synthetic natural gas (NG), which is then used to generate renewable power and jobs for the local community. 

The conversion technology we use is called Pyrolysis. Pyrolysis uses heat (thermal-chemical conversion process) to convert garbage and other carbon based materials into a clean Synthetic Natural Gas (syngas), similar to natural gas. Our Pyrolysis technology uses heat, with no air, to force the rapid decomposition of organic materials and transform them from a solid material to the highly useful gas. The gas is then used to generate dependable, local renewable power.

After the recyclables have been separated from the mixed waste, all that is left over is then is converted into a synthetic natural gas that is used to generate local renewable power. Pyrolysis is a thermochemical conversion process that uses heat, with no air, to convert the waste from a solid into gas. This gas is similar to natural gas and as such can be used to produce electric power and a number of high-value, products such as chemicals, fertilizers and bio fuels.

The synthesis gas is produced under controlled conditions; oxygen deprived elevated heat. Gas is generated without the formation of impurities associated with incinerator flue gas. Pyrolysis produces nearly zero emissions and the by-products (sulfur and slag) are non hazardous (According to the U.S. Department of Energy). Furthermore, pyrolysis plants use significantly less water than traditional coal-based plants using reliable commercially proven technology.

​Combined Heat and Power (CHP), also known as cogeneration, is an efficient, clean, and reliable approach to generating power and thermal energy from a single fuel source. CHP simultaneously reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, which contribute to global climate change. 

The average efficiency of fossil-fueled power plants in the United States is 33% and has remained virtually unchanged for four decades. This means that two-thirds of the energy in the fuel is lost at most power plants in the United States. Our innovative CHP systems achieve total system efficiencies of approximately 80-85% producing electricity and thermal energy.
